Godaddy Stop .CN Domain Name Registration

The world’s largest domain name registrar Godaddy announced the cessation of the .cn domain name registration business on Wednesday. The reason is that the Chinese government has required its customers to provide their photographs and other proof of identity. The company also announced that they would stop the .cn domain name registration. Godaddy’s business in China began in 2005.

GoDaddy says they have contacted about 1200 customers who register .cn at godaddy.com and ask them to provide additional information and documentation in order to provide information available to the China Internet Information Center. However, only about 20% of customers provide these documents. Jones ( consultant of Godaddy) said that the company is now no longer register new. Cn domain names. She did not tell how much did this business brings to the amount of revenue.

Godaddy stressed their behavior has nothing to do with Google, they had make a decision before the Google issued a statement.
